When I first became associated with Best Buddies I thought that there wasn't time in my hectic schedule for the "commitment" of being someone's buddy. Then I met Troy at a fundraising event and that all changed. We bonded instantly over having the same name, both having April birthdays and even having the same sense of humor. It finally clicked. I realized that I wasn't making a commitment. I was making a friend.
Troy intrigued me and I wanted to get to know him more. We started chatting on the phone at first which turned into cheeseburgers and milkshake lunches every Friday. We then started planning to ride in The Eighth Annual Volvo Best Buddies Challenge in Hyannis Port in May. The ride ended up being one of the most physically and mentally challenging things I have ever done. When we crossed the finish line and Troy starting screaming "I did it! I did it!" it made all of the exhaustion worth it.
So we are doing the ride again this year! Please sponsor us as much as you can! Any amount will help out us closer to our goal!
The list of ways that this friendship has changed my life for the better is endless. So let me just say that when I need someone to put things back into perspective, without all the sugar coating, Troy is the one I turn to. I call him and by the end of our conversation I am at peace again. He makes me laugh and cry and feel the full range of human emotion.
